The Third Session of Poland-Iran Bilateral Meetings was held at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences

A bilateral and intimate meeting at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences was attended by Mr. Maciej Fałkowski, the Honorable Ambassador of Poland, Mr.Jakub Bosacki, II Secretary, Economic Affairs at Embassy of Poland, along with several administers of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences including Prof. Zali, the Chancellor of SBMU, Prof. Sharif Kashani, the Vice-Chancellor of SBMU, Prof. Afshin Zarghi, the Vice-Chancellor of Department of Research and Technology, Dr. Shams Allah Nouripour, the Head of Mofid children's hospital Dr. Moradi, the SBMU representative for Poland-Iran Cooperation Desk, and other officials.

This meeting started with a welcome speech from Prof. Sharif Kashani, the Vice-Chancellor of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. He expressed his delight in welcoming the Honorable Ambassador of Poland and his delegate to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences for the third time to enhance the medical-scientific cooperation between the two countries. Prof. Sharif Kashani. also acknowledged the financial support from the Poland Embassy to Mofid Children Hospital, expressing his deepest gratitude to the Minister of Poland for their assistance and initiatives over the years. He expressed hope that in the near future, they would continue to take more positive steps towards achieving all the set objectives.


Following Prof. Sharif's speech, Prof. Zali, the Chancellor of SBMU, lectured on the 550-year history of Poland and Iran relationships, highlighting Iranians’ role in sheltering thousands of Polish people during World War II, which has deepened the relationship between the two countries today. These ties extend beyond medical and scientific cooperation, encompassing cultural and historical contexts that reveal traces of unity and friendship between the two nations. Prof. Zali also expressed appreciation for the accomplishments made during the two productive years of collaboration with Poland. He mentioned the preventive and health promotion measures carried out at Mofid Children Hospital and the donations provided by the Poland Embassy to equip the hospital with necessary facilities during these years. Prof. Zali emphasized the common fields between the two countries that have potential for future collaboration, such as the national health system, new treatment methods for heart diseases, cancers, and non-communicable diseases. He also touched upon the challenges faced by health providers, like the health insurance system, which present daily obstacles and opportunities for cooperation between the two nations. Prof. Zali highlighted the shared experiences in health insurance and electronic health systems as pathways to enhancing the health systems of both countries.

 

After Prof. Zali 's speech, Mr. Maciej Fałkowski, the Honorable Ambassador of Poland, highlighted Iranians’ generous aid dating back 80 years and their great hospitality towards Polish refugees, many of whom were children. He stated that these acts demonstrated the historical integrity of both countries and were the basis for the nomination of "the Children of Isfahan project." Mr. Maciej Fałkowski, emphasized the enduring Medical-Scientific cooperation, particularly in pediatric neurosurgery, as proof of the depth and resilience of the relationships beyond cultural, political, social, and commercial realms. He stressed the significant role of physicians in exchanging knowledge and experiences to benefit the community on a larger scale. He also commended Prof. Mandera for his efforts as the Poland Cooperation Desk Representative in maintaining the strength of this relationship since 2022. Mr. Maciej Fałkowski, also reiterated the commitment of the Poland Embassy to providing donations to further enhance these initiatives. The Honorable Poland Ambassador expressed their openness to any suggestions from SBMU’s officials to expand partnerships in professor-student exchanges and enhance the efficiency and comprehensiveness of contributions in the upcoming stages.



Prof. Moradi, the SBMU’s representative for Poland-Iran Cooperation Desk, presented a report on the measures taken in the past two years, including the visit of a group of doctors to Silesia University in Poland to benefit from the medical knowledge and skills of Polish doctors and scientists.

Following this, Dr. Shams Allah Nouripour, the Head of Mofid children's hospital, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Mofid Children hospital staff for the support and donations from the Polish party that have contributed to the advancement of medical facilities and equipment at Mofid Children Hospital.

Towards the end of the meeting, Mr. Ambassador and his associate were invited to plant a seedling at SBMU 's campus as a symbol of friendship and the long-lasting, fruitful partnership between the two countries.
